چکیده

New phosphorous-containing salicylates and two allyl salicylates with pharmacological potential, derived from salicylic acid, have been synthesized. Their chemical structure has been established by spectral analyses (mass spectra and 1H-NMR). The salicylates presented low toxicity, also showing a remarkable antipyretic activity, greater than that of acetylsalicylic acid (aspirin). Partition coefficient (log P), and dissociation constant (pKa) were calculated by the use of ACDLabs system software. The obtained values were correlated with experimental data of activity.

Evaluation of Antipyretic Activity of Pedalium murex Against Brewer’s Yeast-Induced Pyrexia in Rats

The aqueous and ethanolic extracts of Pedalium murex (Pedaliaceae) was investigated for antipyretic activity in rats using Brewer’s yeast-induced pyrexia models. Brewer’s yeast (15%) was used to induce pyrexia in rats. Both the extract (200 and 400 mg/kg body weight p.o produced a significant (p

Study of Anthranylic Acid Derivatives: Mefenamic Acid and Its Various Analogues

Anthranylic acid derivatives are direct structural analogs of salicylic acid derivatives. They possess analgesic, anti-inflammatory, and antipyretic activity. They are similar to pyrazolones in terms of analgesic and antipyretic activity, yet they exceed the anti-inflammatory activity of salicylates. The mechanism of action of this series of nonsteroid, anti-inflammatory analgesics is not concl...

Inhibition of acute inflammation in the periphery by central action of salicylates.

Understanding of the antiinflammatory actions of nonsteroidal drugs is incomplete, but these actions are believed to occur in the periphery, without any contribution from the central nervous system. Recent research on the antipyretic antiinflammatory neuropeptide alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone indicates that it can act centrally to inhibit peripheral inflammation; this raises the possibil...

39: Salicylates

The Ancient Egyptians recognized the pain-relieving effects of concoctions made from myrtle and willow leaves. Hippocrates may have been among the first to use willow bark and leaves from the Salix species to relieve fever, but it was not until 1829 that the glycoside salicin was extracted from the willow bark and used as an antipyretic. Seven years later, salicylic acid was isolated, and by th...

Antioxidant properties and Glutathione S-transferases inhibitory activity of Alchornea cordifolia leaf extract in Acetaminophen toxicity

Paracetamol (acetaminophen, PCM) is a widely used over-the-counter analgesic and antipyretic drug. Intake of a large dose of PCM may result in severe hepatic necrosis. Oxidative stress is mediated by oxidative capacities of the PCM metabolite (N-acetyl-para-benzo quinoneimine, NAPQI), which covalently binds to proteins and other macromolecules to cause cellular damage. At low doses, NAPQI is ...
